Interview with Shannon K - Teen pop singer_www.usmag.club

Meet the talented pop singer Shannon K, who talks about her music passion and her latest album, “Perpetual”, in this candid interview :

US Mag : Tell us a little bit about yourself. Your background, education etc. ??

I am a pop singer ,born in India, brought up in London . I learnt classical music from ABRSM,London. I’m in grade 11 , based in Los Angeles now.

US Mag : We been hearing a lot about you, so we notice your starting to gain a lot of attention how does it feel?

It feels good to be noticed by people especially when they compliment me on my music and tell me which song they loved. Now I have to be more cautious and work harder to live up to their expectations. I am thankful to everyone who likes my music since it’s very hard to make a place with original songs , without any manager ! Mostly the artists get noticed when they come up with a big label behind them, I never had that support ! I’m happy with whatever I have and thanking God for that.

US Mag : Please tell us more about your latest album, “Perpetual” ?

My album perpetual is about mixed emotions and how they are never ending. Sometimes you feel like you need someone and you want them to be there with you. Other times it’s about missing the ones you have lost. Sometimes you feel like saying “boy look at me when I’m talking to you”, but sometimes you feel like saying “don’t look at me like that with your pretty eyes”. Sometimes you just wanna have fun and be alive. So there are many emotions that are in this album.

I grew up with not having my dad around as much because he was and still is traveling around the world for his concerts. So apart from my mom I had my grandparents, whom I lost at the age of 5. So basically, I missed most of the affection which I crave so bad and that emotion reflects in running and I believe.

Pretty Eyes was actually inspired by Justin Bieber’s dreamy eyes. I was casually watching his music video “Boyfriend” and I didn’t realize that I was falling for his eyes, and I guess that’s how the song came to be.

Lately is for all those girls who had their heart broken but know who they are. It’s about being independent and strong and beautiful even without a man.

There are some light hearted party songs like alive, lonely here, it’s so good, and slow down which was produced by Rishi Rishirich. I’ve cowritten most of the songs with my little sister Annabel, who’s 13. There are producers like David Tyrell who I worked with for 4 songs when I was 12 and residing in the U.K. Then I worked here with few more producers in US.

This album took 3 years to come out.

When the summer comes is about being relaxed and enjoying nature and summer! It’s about forgetting all the stresses in your life for a while and spending time with your friends and family.

US Mag : If you could perform anywhere, in the world, where would it have to be?

I would love to perform everywhere in the world because I love traveling and I love performing for my fans but if I have to choose I would go for Times Square NY.

US Mag : Who are your musical inspirations ?

As it’s quite obvious that I got inspired by my dad first and then I heard many artists like Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Celine dion, Adele and Bruno Mars. Their songs inspired me to become a singer. Song’s are basically related to the emotions and I always write about them, Whether I’m feeling sad, happy, angry etc. For me, life doesn’t exists without music.

US Mag : Can you please tell our readers more about your father ‘ Kumar Sanu ‘ ( Award winning vocalists in Bollywood ) ?

It’s hard to describe my dad’s achievements in few words but he won more then 1,100 awards including 5 consecutive film fare awards and top 4th civilian award by the (Gov. of India). He has a day called “kumar Sanu day” which is celebrated in Dayton Ohio on 31st March. He has achieved Guinness World book of records for recording 28 original songs in a day! And the list goes on…

US Mag : What were your feelings when you released your first solo song in May 2014 ?

Honestly it was never planned and it just happened after my sis Annabel wrote some beautiful lyrics and I came up with the melody ! Dad heard me humming and he thought this song should be discovered. I was pretty nervous if people will accept me or not. It was hard as well since I was getting compared to dad and I still do but my dad told me that I should just concentrate on music and not getting affected by them. I still get disturbed sometime but I know my parents are always with me and that’s my strength !

US Mag : Do you have any advice for anyone wanting to be a professional musician?

First of all I am too young to give advise to anyone however I would only say that perseverance and patience is the key along with hard work and a positive attitude. There are gonna be a lot of people who would want to see you fail and would discourage you but you have to keep going forward and not care about the haters, take in the good criticism and throw away the bad ones. Stay focused and always try to do better than before. Never give up on yourself. My dad always says one thing, “You never get anything before the right time and more then what is in your luck/faith.”
So right time is very important along with talent.

US Mag : Everybody needs time out. What do you do in your free time ?

Honestly when I am not recording I hang out with my friends or I’m on my phone and I go to gym. I love coloring, It sounds so childish but it is very therapeutic and it helps me build my concentration on one thing rather then putting my brain everywhere. I also listen to music to relax. I love going to the park and the beach for fresh air.

US Mag : Are you active on social media? what’s the best way to follow you ?
