US Mag: Tell us a little bit about yourself. Your background, education, your writing passion etc. ??
I come from a small Scottish town called Blantyre, not far from Glasgow, my education was basic high school education, I suppose I always wanted to do something creative but it was always one of those things that yes it would be nice to do but you won’t so don’t, but my passion has come late on where I have thought, let’s do it, let’s get that imagination sparked up.
US Mag: We been hearing a lot about you & your books, so we notice your starting to gain a lot of attention how does it feel?
To be honest it’s happened so quickly, just last year my first book had come out and now I’m doing interviews for both of my books, it feels great that people are noticing my books, I love it, as far as I’m concerned with attention, it’s like karaoke slips on your table, the more the better lol
US Mag: Can you please tell our readers more about “Like Father Like Son“?
Like Father Like Son begins in New York where we find Joseph Houston, a successful defence lawyer, who has just won a big case and has just got a call from back home from his parents in Scotland, he’s been told his father has had a fall, but his father is the Godfather of Blantyre, his home town, so Joseph must go back and find out what’s going on.
US Mag: What has been one of the most exciting achievements of your career so far ?
I think the most exciting achievement of my career was when I received the finished article of my very first book, getting it out there and my book launch and interviews and reviews were amazing but when I held my first book, it was my baby and that was my most exciting achievement because it was something I’d never done before.
US Mag: What’s your goal in life you want to achieve next?
My goal is to finally be able to to what I love full time, that is the dream, and I aim to be a best seller, I have a few books in mind for once I finish the one I’m doing, they are a detective series which take place in a town also local to me, so that will be good for my readers but my goal for him is to eventually see a detective TV series based on the books by J J Devine.
US Mag: What motivates you to do your best work as a Author?
A few things motivate me, my imagination, my readers, and my parents.
US Mag: What’s the reason behind writing this book “The Lair“?
Well I had finished my first book Like Father Like Son, and I decided to take a character from that book, which was the detective, and give him a few books of his own, I had even started writing it, I was going to come back after a few books and maybe write a prequel, which is The Lair, my friends Marty and Julie decided to dig in their heels and became critics from hell and said the first book was fresh in everyone’s head so the prequel had to be next, so for their agro, I thank them lol
US Mag: Everybody needs time out. What do you do in your free time?
Well when I’m not writing the next blockbuster lol I enjoy reading karaoke lyrics from large screens in my local pubs and singing all night long if I get the chance lol, I like to get away for trips to Benidorm in Spain for some more karaoke oh and to go live on Facebook, I think I’m a Facebook presenter but my friends start to mute me lol so they always want me to go back to writing lol
US Mag: Any suggestion for new writers?
If you want to be a writer, then go for it, make a list of characters, how your story is going to go, don’t think how it will turn out, just enjoy the journey of seeing what will happen as you will know as you go, but give it a shot.
